What is “Proof of Valid Insurance”?
To register a motor vehicle in Alberta, it must be properly insured, and you must maintain that insurance while you own the vehicle. Insurance coverage must include public liability and public damage. Your insurance company will be able to tell you the type of coverage you need and coverage options available.
Your proof of insurance document must include the name(s) of all registrant(s) that will appear on the vehicle registration.
Proof of insurance can be completed by showing an electronic or physical copy to the registry clerk at the time of registration. Insurance must be valid on the day of registration.
