New Urban Registry can provide search products such as Abstracts, Confirmation letters, and Drivers History Reports. These search products may be required for employment, licensing in different countries/provinces, or possibly even court proceedings.
What are Search Products?
Abstracts – There are 2 types of Abstracts: Commercial Abstracts and Standard Abstracts.
Standard Driver Abstracts shows specific information that might be needed for employment or insurance purposes. The abstract provides the current status of a driver’s licence (Expired, Suspended, Canceled), lists conviction information for however long the Abstract goes back in history, and any applicable demerit points and suspensions.
A Standard Driver’s Abstract will show
A Commercial Driver’s abstract is slightly different in the information that it provides. Specifically,it will NOT show date of birth, height, weight, and sex. It WILL show all other information that a standard abstract will, along with Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance Inspection information. The commercial abstract will generally be required by employers and usually as a specifically requested document.
Abstracts can be ordered online through your Alberta.Ca account, via email or mail, or by physically going to a registry. There are other options, such as having an individual known to you to attend at the registry on your behalf. You will need to fill out some documents beforehand if you chose to do so.Please contact us for more information on how to obtain an Abstract in this way at motorvehicles@newurbanregistry.com
Confirmation Letters – There are many types of confirmation letters. Some can be provided in aRegistry, and some must be issued by the Alberta Government. The most used confirmation letter is for individuals who are transferring their Alberta Licence to another jurisdiction, but there are many other types. Confirmation letters will confirm specific information that cannot be readily produced on a standard search product.
Types of Confirmation Letters:
For most individuals, it is recommended to come into the registry to process your confirmation letters. If you are physically unable to attend a registry, you can request your documents via email or mail, but delivery of your document must be via pickup or mail.
The most requested document is for driver’s licence details and will indicate information based on for what the search is requested.
For example: A confirmation letter for licensing outside of Alberta and is issued directly by a government agent, who will search your file and provide information that will be relevant for what you are requesting. They generally will indicate name, birth-date, current licence information, history of how your licence was issued and what tests were completed, class or classes of licence and a description of their use, history of licences issued with issue dates and expiry dates, and a description of the service, endorsements, and restrictions along with descriptions.
The document is electronically signed and stamped by the government agent and can also, up on request, be provided as a physical apostilled document (explanation of how to process will be provided at time of request).
The processing times for confirmation letters ordered from the government are far longer than that for documents the Registry processes in-office. In some cases, though, confirmation letters MUST be processed by the government. Wait times for government ordered requests can vary based on their work load, from 4–10 weeks. Therefore, it is very important to confirm the confirmation letter is the document you require.
Driver’s Licence History Report is a search product that can be requested and processed on its own and on the spot. Just like an Abstract, this document does not need to be processed by the government but is printed at the registry. The Driver’s Licence History Report shows history only within Alberta.
The Driver’s Licence History Report will confirm MVID; driver’s licence number; full name; date of birth; licence issue and expiry date; the most recent type of licence service (renew, exchange, cancel, etc.); licence class; GDL status; GDL exit date (if applicable); condition/restriction/endorsement codes; a history of driver’s licences issued in Alberta; and any renewals, re-classes, or operator cancel services.
To note, the Driver’s Licence History Report does NOT confirm the status of a driver’s licence, nor does itindicate whether a driver’s licence is Restricted (due to demerit and/or impaired driving suspension).
Depending on your situation and whether the Driver’s Licence History Report is usable for your purposes, this may be the most expedient document you can request to prove your licensing information.
Before ordering any documents, it is highly recommended you confirm with full certainty what exact document you require and what the documents must show. All documents are NONREFUNDABLE, and if you need to order a different document, you will have to pay again. If you ordered a document and received it by mail and you must order a new document, you will have to pay the mailing fee again.
